A free church for the LGBT community in Quezon City is inviting gay couples to join their free mass wedding ceremony on June 28, 2015, Sunday. The said “holy union” is to be officiated by Rev. Crescencio ‘Ceejay” Agbayani Jr., the Founding Pastor of the LGBTS CHRISTIAN CHURCH INC.
According to their website, the LGBTS Christian Church in Quezon City is a progressive ecumenical community of Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders and Straights believers of Jesus Christ.
As posted, it’s a free mass wedding however, the organizer encourage couples to make a donation for the expenses that will incur during the event. The requirements and guidelines for the said mass gay wedding event can be read here.
In 2011, the Catholic Church and a group of pastors from Baguio and Benguet heavily criticized the Metropolitan Community Church of Metro Baguio (MCC-Metro Baguio) who leaded a same-sex mass wedding event in undisclosed location in the Baguio city.
Reportedly there were eight pairs of lesbians and gays who joined the exchanging of vows.
The Diocese of Baguio-Benguet Bishop Carlito Cenzon said a same-sex holy union is an insult to the Roman Catholic Church, adding that local officials should not support it.
But Cenzon said the Church is not discriminating the LGBT community.
"Same-sex wedding is wrong and cannot be called a holy union. Naawa tayo sa kanila kasi nagmamahalan sila pero hindi sila pwedeng ikasal. (We pity them, they love each other but they cannot be wed.)" Cenzon added.
Countries that have so far allowed lesbian and gay weddings are Spain, Argentina, Australia, Norway and other Western countries.
