Frias on Operation Tokhang : I cannot do that..

A barangay official in Cagayan De Oro made a headline today after publicly refuses to conduct Tokhang (Tok-tok Hangyo) in his village.

The said official is Barangay 23 chairman Jaime Frias II, member of liberal party and also a media persona working at Superbalita Cagayan De Oro.

Based to Sunstar report, Frias refuses to draw list of  suspected drug personalities for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) ‘Oplan Tokhang’ due to privacy and human rights issues.

According to him there has been no memorandum from the Department of Interior and Local and Government (DILG) or even a simple letter from the PNP requesting or directing village officials to come up with a list.

"I admire the efforts made by the administration of his Excellency Rodrigo Duterte, but I could not do that," Frias said.

The report added that although some known drug peddlers and users already expressed their intention to surrender, Frias told them there will be no 'tokhang'.

Frias said, however, that he is not against good old police work in the villages in the fight against illegal drugs.

Last December 23, 2015, P1.5 million worth of shabu was confiscated by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has been seized in Barangay 23.

Meanwhile, PRO Northern Mindanao spokesperson Superintendent Surki Alday Sereñas reacted on Frias unwillingness to submit, he said, “Ang purpose is para mahibaw-an ra man sa PNP nga dili na sila part sa target kay nag signify na sila nga moundang na and madocument sila para dili na sila ma-operationan.”

“Dili man tingali ma-igo sa human rights violations kay ang pagtake sa picture sa usa ka surrenderee for profiling ra mana and dili for publishing sa media or sa bisan asa gawas kung i-publish na kana paglabag gyud sa human rights,” Sereñas added.
