SOLCOM Lent Break Cancelled

The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) has cancelled its Lenten break and placed all its units on "red alert" for possible disaster relief measures.

SOLCOM was supposed to go on a Holy Week break from 7 a.m. of April 2 to 6 a.m. of April 6.

"The red alert status was declared because of the potential effects Typhoon 'Maysak' (Chedeng) might bring to the region," said Southern Luzon Command Chief Major General Ricardo R. Visaya.

Though weather forecasts indicate that the eye of the typhoon will not directly hit Southern Luzon, all disaster response operations units were activated and ordered to take all necessary preparations to address the worst possible effects, said Interaksyon report.
