Cargo ship apprentice drowned after following Capt. Order to Jumps off the Boat

Koronadal City – A 21 year old student apprentice drowned, dead after allegedly the Captain of the said cargo vessel ordered the victim to jumps off the boat in Surigao waters.


According to 95.7 Brigada News FM Koronadal report, the said victim was identified as Chino Layson, 21, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, T’boli South Cotabato and a student apprentice of LCP Mark Jayson 3, a cargo forwarder boat.

Layson is expected to finish his apprenticeship this month after he graduated Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) in one of the schools in Davao City.

According to the father of the victim, his son was ordered by the Captain to jumps off the boat to get something into the water but the victim failed to emerge.

After several days reportedly missing,Layson’s body was recovered in Surigao Ocean, without hair and eyes.

Meanwhile Layson’s family and relatives are now in Surigao to prepare the victim’s body to be sent in South Cotabato for autopsy to determine the real cause of his death. 

The cargo vessel is now in the Philippine Navy custody, 95.7 Brigada News FM report said.
It was not clear yet if the family of the victim will file a case against the maritime personnel of the LCP Mark Jayson 3.

Some Netizens speculates a foul play or fatal safety lapse on the incident.

Baka may foul play ang pagkamatay ng aprentice. Alam nyo there are two type of order legal order and illegal order kung ang order ng kapitan ay patalunin ang estudyante apprentice sa dagat without any life saver yan ay illegal.

Consolacion Incident 
Last year, A 22-year-old apprentice engineer also drowned after he jumped to the sea to recover a wallet which fell from a cargo ship docked in barangay Tayud, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.
Ariel Montebon, an apprentice engineer of Lady of Prosperity cargo ship, failed to emerge after he jumped into the sea, Inquirer.net website said.
